Choosing online learning is a wonderful option for students to participate who would otherwise not be able to join us at our facility and provides learning opportunities that are cost efficient and flexible. The online format makes it possible to avoid the disruption and extra expense of travel, lodging, and taking time away from our busy lives and real-world obligations to attend lengthy immersions. Heartwood has enjoyed working with people on other continents or who currently have limiting life circumstances that can now join us, thanks to accrediting organization's online provisions and new technologies. And while many students begin studying with us online, they often manage to join us later for an in-person visit, yoga experience, or training, so when the time is right, they experience the best of both worlds.
This is where every new yoga teacher starts. The RYS-200 course is the required foundational level which not only prepares you to teach a safe and effective yoga class to others, but helps you learn to be a yogi and learn the deeper dimensions of the practice you love. After this course students are certified and qualified to teach, or they can expand and build on this course to prepare for different careers in yoga.
For those who are currently an RYT-200 certified teacher, we offer an advanced RYS-300 program fully online or in a hybrid (partially online with an 8 day live immersion) format. Completion makes the student an RYT-500, professional teacher.
If you long for a career in yoga that serves those needing healing and enjoy working primarily in one-on-one sessions or if you would like to be qualified to work in health facilities as a certified IAYT Yoga Therapist (International Association of Yoga Therapy) Heartwood now offers our YT program online.

While there are conveniences to studying from home, it is important to understand that online learning at Heartwood is not easier, quicker, or a shortcut to gaining a certification without as much effort as an in-person program. There are many yoga programs available today that are self-directed and lack the YA standards of required interaction or assessment to assure graduates are indeed qualified and ready to teach yoga. At Heartwood, the online programs include interaction with our staff and competency challenges to assure you have as close to the same experience as you would have if you joined us in person so you will feel confident and competitent to teach yoga when you graduate.
In some respects, online learning can be more difficult as it requires self-discipline to complete assignments and a willingness to show up and participate in order to get the most from the experience. We advise everyone to consider the time and effort involved in pursuing a quality education at Heartwood when considering what educational format is right for you.
You must be able to meet the following requirements to participate in our online educational communities:
