So much of the distress and dysfunction that people deal with in today's society is due to addictive behaviors. Whether we are addicted to substances, smoking, shopping, or our cell phones and social media, breaking the patterns of addiction requires an understanding of how our physical, mental, and spiritual states can be reprogrammed to help us attain a more balanced, whole state.
This course covers how our social training and personal experiences, combined with the common effects of trauma and mental disturbances, can lead to addiction issues, including substance abuse, gambling, shopping, sex, or any other excessive behavior that makes it impossible to live a balanced life. Yoga for Addiction and Recovery explores the definition of addiction, symptoms, causes, and common paths to recovery, and sets the foundation of understanding for how yoga can be applied as a healing modality independently or adjacent to other recovery programs. Yoga practices, sutra studies, and physical, mental, & spiritual practices are explored as they pertain to recovery, beginning with the physical and moving on to the koshic & spiritual levels. This course includes the science of addiction, yoga philosophy, practices, and theory. This course is a part of the Heartwood IAYT-accredited 800-hour yoga therapy program and is appropriate for anyone with an RYT-200.
