The Hybrid RYS-200 Program at Heartwood

The Best of Both Worlds - In-Person and online learning combined

We know what you are thinking . . .

  • Can a person really learn to teach yoga “once removed” through remote lessons without real bodies to practice on and/or a mentor helping you develop the skillset that a yoga teacher needs?
  • Statistics also show that over 90% of people who enroll in online programs don’t complete the work, so how do you keep motivated and on-track in a self paced program?
  • What about the connection students develop when they are learning live, sharing experiences, and getting hands on mentorship? Should that be a part of YTT?
  • When working independently, or as one of a hundred people in a mass-produced program, how can you know you personally are mastering the skills set needed to be an informed yoga teacher?

The hybrid 200 at Heartwood Yoga Institute has consider all of these questions and as result, developed a dynamic way to get an authentic, powerful yoga education that prepares you to teach others safely and with confidence through a combination of online and in-person training that makes attaining your yoga certification more affordable and easier to schedule into your busy life.

Online learning has become a wonderful tool for those who can’t manage to take time away from real life responsibilities to attend a lengthy immersion training program. While online programs consisting of prerecorded content are less expensive (because they don't need to include the services a live program provide in the way of attentive staff, a beautiful location, and other elements that are a part of a personal training) are you really saving money if you don’t get the full education you need to be an effective yoga teacher? More importantly, is something special lost when you choose online learning, because the transformational element of yoga is experiential and not something we experience through intellectual study?

The Hybrid program provides a powerful yoga education experience combining online and in person learning for a rich, complete learning experience at an affordable tuition. Flexible study options assure you can complete the work even if life gets in the way.  Convenient 6-month no interest payment plans are available.

the best of both worlds - online and live learning

Why we created the Hybrid Program

During Covid, Heartwood offered online 200 programs like many schools in best effort to continue sharing our work with others during difficult times. Our programs included many hours of zoom meetings to simulate a live training experience as much as possible and we trained some wonderful teachers with distance one on one learning. But still, we missed the intimacy and opportunity to work closely with students for their best introduction to an authentic yoga education.

This is why, as safety and travel opportunities restabilized, we developed the Hybrid 200. Experience showed us how distance learning can be delivered in an authentic way, but we also became aware of what was sorely missing in that platform, and we brainstormed a way to combine the best of both worlds.

How the Program Unfolds

In the hybrid program students study prerecorded content at their own pace in the comfort of their own home, but we meet every other week for a 3 hour zoom meeting to connect, answer questions and participate in a practicum that encourages each student to begin teaching, processing and practicing what they've learned. This solidifies concepts and keeps everyone's attention focused. We limit the program to 14 students to be sure each student is seen, heard and given the opportunity to practice and receive feedback just like our live trainings. The schedule keeps everyone on track and progressing with e-mail motivation and reminders, an active private Facebook community and support always available from your mentor, so everyone finishes with a strong education guided by experienced mentors and you are one of a special group of trainees, rather than part of a mass-produced, less personal learning program.

A Special In-Person Retreat just for you.

After our online work is complete, we meet in person at Beautiful Heartwood Yoga Institute for a 4-day memorable immersion experience where we get to work on those things that are best learned in person. This long weekend provides a chance to connect to our tribe, enjoy heartfelt yoga experiences in the gorgeous setting of Heartwood and share a graduation ceremony to honor all your hard work. By then, the students are ready to share and can receive in-person feedback. We want everyone to receive the validation and assurance a new yoga teacher needs to feel confident to work with others before you set off to develop yoga communities of your own.

The Beauty of a Hybrid Program

By studying partially online (with zoom guidance) this program can be brought to you for a lower tuition than the full immersion programs- and pretty much everyone can get away for 5 days to fuel their inspiration and confidence to feel well informed and ready to launch their teaching career or deepen their personal yoga journey!

Graduates end up with wonderful memories of time spent at Heartwood, and they can join Yoga Alliance knowing they were provided with all the recommended live hours and the student to teacher ratio that YA considers required guidelines for a quality yoga education (Unfortunately, not all programs follow those guidelines.) This means your yoga education is "the real deal" as per all recommendations and requirements from Yoga Alliance. Heartwood is also one of only 66 IAYT accredited yoga therapy training facilities worldwide, which means your yoga certification comes from a school that is respected and recognized as one of the leading yoga education programs available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at contactheartwoodyoga@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

We want to provide an intimate, personal training experience so the maximum we accept is 15 students in any program. You will be seen, heard, and receive personal feedback so this training closely emulates a live program.

We feel the live retreat experience is important to your complete yoga education, and you deserve the joy and insight that comes during this special gathering. But life happens, and if something occurs so you can't join us on the selected dates, you can finish those incomplete segments of the program through additional online sessions and through private zoom sessions with one of our mentors. We will even zoom you into the retreat to say "Hi" to your tribe and catch some of what you miss (as is appropriate for sharing).

Our zoom sessions are designed as a practicum so you get feedback and real time engagement with a qualified mentor, but we know sometimes it is not always possible to attend. Missed zoom sessions can be watched 24 hours after the session. We ask the student to do a short synopsis of the session to know they watched the lesson to be sure they learn what is important as we stack information to stronger understanding.

We want everyone to get the most they can from every lesson. For our zoom sessions you will need any device with a camera and you need to participate in a place with good lighting  where you can spread out a mat and capture your full image.   Our rules include no eating during the session or any multitasking that may distract you from engagement (for example, you really can't learn yoga while driving a car, leaning back in a hammock with a cat in your lap, or taking your dog for a walk.) You may be participating from home, but we want you to be fully present and participating as if you were with us live in the classroom .
