Online learning has become a wonderful tool for those who can’t manage to take time away from real-life responsibilities to attend a lengthy immersion training program, but something is lost when you don't have the opportunity to practice and interact with mentors to develop your skill set. That is why the Hybrid program is the perfect solution for those who like the convenience of distance learning but want hands-on experience too.
Yoga Alliance requires a minimum of 30 live hours with a mentor in every 200-hour training. The Heartwood Hybrid program far exceeds the minimum with 30 hours of live interaction as well as additional support and resources for ongoing community connection. (Students who do not attend the retreat still receive the recommended 30 hours of live interaction mandated by Yoga Alliance.) This inspirational and experiential learning format is filled with opportunities to connect, ask questions, and gain valuable feedback, yet still provides a chance to learn from home (and save money).
Students begin with the RYS-200 Prerecorded Content they can do at their own pace. We have six 5-hour interactive Zoom sessions devoted to Q & A, practice, and feedback, to be sure you understand the material. A 4.5-day live retreat allows us to practice and dive into studies that are best learned in person. This inspirational long weekend training gives us opportunity to practice teaching, gain valuable feedback, and connect as a community.
Students are given an online Bonus Certification Course to expand their skill set as well, which can be completed at their own pace and they have the option to join us for the next interactive zoom practicum on the subject if the live experience helps support Zoom learning (but attendance is not required).
Bonus Course:
Convenient 6-month no-interest payment plans are available.
We limit the program to 12 students to be sure each student is seen, heard, and given the opportunity to practice and receive feedback just like our live training.
During Covid, Heartwood offered online 200 programs like many schools in the best effort to continue sharing our work with others during difficult times. Our programs included many hours of Zoom meetings to simulate a live training experience as much as possible and we trained some wonderful teachers with distance one-on-one learning. But still, we missed the intimacy and opportunity to work closely with students for their best introduction to an authentic yoga education.
This is why, as safety and travel opportunities restabilized, we developed the Hybrid 200. Experience showed us how distance learning can be delivered in an authentic way, but we also became aware of what was sorely missing in that platform, and we brainstormed a way to combine the best of both worlds.
In the hybrid program, students study prerecorded content at their own pace in the comfort of their own homes, but we meet every other week for a 5-hour Zoom meeting to connect, answer questions, and participate in a practicum that encourages each student to begin teaching, processing and practicing what they've learned (six zoom sessions). The schedule keeps everyone on track and progressing with e-mail motivation and reminders, an active private Facebook community, and support always available from your mentor, so everyone finishes with a strong education guided by experienced mentors. At Heartwood, you are one of a special group of trainees, rather than part of a mass-produced, less personal online learning program.
After our online work is complete, we meet in person at Beautiful Heartwood Yoga Institute for a 4.5-day memorable immersion experience where we get to work on those things that are best learned in person. This long weekend provides a chance to connect, enjoy heartfelt yoga experiences in the gorgeous setting of Heartwood, and share a graduation ceremony to honor all your hard work. By then, the students are ready to share and can receive in-person feedback. We want everyone to receive the validation and assurance a new yoga teacher needs to feel confident to work with others before you set off to develop yoga communities of your own.
By studying partially online (with Zoom guidance) this program can be brought to you for a lower tuition than the full immersion programs- and pretty much everyone can get away for 4 days to fuel their inspiration and confidence to feel well-informed and ready to launch their teaching career or deepen their personal yoga journey!
Graduates end up with wonderful memories of time spent at Heartwood, and they can join Yoga Alliance knowing they were provided with all the recommended live hours and the student-to-teacher ratio that YA considers required guidelines for a quality yoga education.
Heartwood is also one of only 66 IAYT-accredited yoga therapy training facilities worldwide, which means your yoga certification comes from a school that is respected and recognized as one of the leading yoga education programs available.

We want to provide an intimate, personal training experience so the maximum we accept is 15 students in any program. You will be seen, heard, and receive personal feedback so this training closely emulates a live program.
We feel the live retreat experience is important to your complete yoga education, and you deserve the joy and insight that comes during this special gathering. But life happens, and if something occurs so you can't join us on the selected dates, you can finish those incomplete segments of the program through additional online sessions and private Zoom sessions with one of our mentors. We will even zoom you into the retreat to say "Hi" to your tribe and catch some of what you miss (as is appropriate for sharing). If you can't make your designated retreat, you can attend a future hybrid 200 retreat by calling the office and checking availability.
Our Zoom sessions are designed as a practicum so you get feedback and real-time engagement with a qualified mentor, but we know sometimes it is not always possible to attend. Missed zoom sessions can be watched 24 hours after the session. We ask the students to do a short synopsis of the session to know they watched the lesson and to be sure they learn what is important as we stack information to a stronger understanding. Anyone wishing to make up zoom meetings in person to reinforce mentorship learning, can do so by joining any or all of the next session zoom meetings.
We want everyone to get the most they can from every lesson. For our Zoom sessions, you will need any device with a camera and you need to participate in a place with good lighting where you can spread out a mat and capture your full image. Our rules include no eating during the session or any multitasking that may distract you from engagement (for example, you really can't learn yoga while driving a car, leaning back in a hammock with a cat in your lap, or taking your dog for a walk.) You may be participating from home, but we want you to be fully present and participating as if you were with us live in the classroom.
This program includes online self-paced content, online interactive Zoom sessions, a 4.5-day live retreat with food, art supplies, and yoga gifts, a bonus online certification course, ongoing support and encouragement, airport transfer if needed, and a photo shoot on location at Heartwood. Not included are flights, and required course books (about 60.00 on Amazon).
The live retreat allows us to introduce elements of yoga teacher training best learned experientially. We will have workshops on hand on adjustments and modifications, chakra studies, Bells, bowls and gongs, chanting, practices, inspirational yoga activities, and our graduation ceremony. We break bread together, discuss future goals, and nourish our enthusiasm and confidence to share yoga with others. We do a business of yoga workshop and set aside a morning for a photo shoot so everyone has beautiful pictures in the Chakra garden to jump-start marketing for their new career.
We want everyone to experience an authentic yoga retreat experience, so all food is vegetarian with vegan and gluten-free options. Healthy snacks such as vegan muffins, fruit, power bars, nuts, and treats are available all day. We serve Lunch and Dinner family style at appointed times and continental-style breakfast foods are available as a self-serve option each morning. Coffee and tea are available all day.
If you opt to stay at Heartwood you are in comfortable dorm-style lodging, 4 to a spacious air-conditioned room (air B & B style). We have extremely comfortable beds each with privacy curtains, and all linens and essentials are provided. The Heartwood library, student kitchen, and practice areas are open at all hours.
You receive 200 hours of prerecorded content with lifetime access for ongoing reference. This is where you will learn theory, anatomy, philosophy, alignment, and other elements that develop a strong intellectual understanding of yoga.
You attend 6 five hour in-person Zoom sessions meeting practicum requirements to build skills. Students who miss the meeting can watch them later (but we encourage as much real-time participation as possible.)
4.5 days of live training at beautiful Heartwood Yoga Institute. (We arrive on Monday at 6 pm for orientation and our first lesson, then work Tuesday – Friday from 8:30 am – 7:30 pm. Students can leave Friday evening after 6 or stay on site and leave Saturday morning.
At the retreat, wonderful vegetarian meals are provided as well as a few meaningful yoga gifts at our graduation ceremony. You also will be given art supplies for special reflection projects. We will walk the labyrinth, visit the meditation garden, enjoy ceremony around the elements firepit and more.
Altogether, you receive over 60 hours of in-person mentoring between online Zoom and the retreat to add to your 200 hours of all the self-paced content.
